The four-star from New Jersey saw his freshman year come to a premature end after suffering torn tendons in his wrist
One month after Brady Dunlap was ruled out for the remainder of the season with an abdominal tear, St. John’s was dealt with another season-ending injury as they enter a critical late-season stretch.
First reported by Zach Braziller of the New York Post, Rick Pitino announced that freshman guard Jaiden Glover is out for the rest of the season due to torn tendons in his wrist. Glover previously missed the January 7 game versus Xavier due to a bone bruise in his wrist.
Several Red Storm players are battling through a slew of injuries. R.J. Luis and Kadary Richmond both suffered groin injuries recently. Luis missed Wednesday night’s game against DePaul, while Richmond played through his injury and posted 17 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the 82-58 win over the Blue Demons. Vince Iwuchukwu also missed Wednesday’s game due to illness.
Without Dunlap and Glover, the Red Storm are running out of three-point threats on a team in desperate need of outside scoring. Of Red Storm players to log 200 or more minutes this season, only Deivon Smith is shooting better than 30 percent with a team-best 39.1% clip.
Despite his pedigree as a consensus four-star recruit out of high school, Glover had a minimal role in his first season, like most freshmen playing for Rick Pitino. The New Jersey native averaged 2.2 points on 34.7% shooting and 33.3% from three in 22 games played and 6.4 minutes per game.
The 10th-ranked St. John’s men’s basketball team (23-4, 14-2 Big East) face the UConn Huskies (18-8, 10-5 Big East) at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, February 23. The old Big East rivalry matchup is scheduled to tip off at noon, and the game will be broadcast on FOX.
