Losses to Baylor and Georgia knock the Red Storm out of the rankings after a two-week stay
St. John’s has lost its ranking after an ill-fated trip to The Bahamas.
The Red Storm dropped out of the top 25 in the latest AP men’s basketball poll released Monday afternoon. They received only ten votes, the 38th-most in the nation.
St. John’s entered their three-game trip to The Bahamas as the 22nd-ranked team in the nation for a second straight week, but they dropped two of their three games on the island: a double-OT heartbreaker to now 17th-ranked Baylor and a frustrating 66-63 defeat to Georgia. Their only win was a 25-point laugher against Virginia, ranked 107th in KenPom.
Taking their 22nd ranking is Big East conference foe Xavier, who is currently 6-0 after defeating South Carolina in Fort Myers, Florida, on Monday night.
Despite losing their ranking after a 1-2 week, advanced metrics still love St. John’s. The Red Storm are ranked 14th overall in KenPom and 10th overall in Bart Torvik.
The Johnnies will return to the court on Saturday, November 30, when they face Harvard at Carnesecca Arena (6:30 p.m., Peacock).
