Despite holding the eighth overall seed and the final 2-seed in the NCAA tournament, the Red Storm only trails all four 1-seeds (Duke, Houston, Florida, Auburn) in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.
Along with winning both Big East regular season and tournament titles in the same season for the first time since 1985-86, St. John’s has reached the 30-win mark for only the third time in program history.
2-seed St. John’s (30-4) will face the 15-seed Omaha in the first round of the NCAA tournament in the West Region in Providence, Rhode Island, on Thursday, March 20 (9:45 p.m., CBS). With a win, the Red Storm will snap a 25-year NCAA tournament win drought and match the program record for most wins in a single season.
