The Johnnies achieve their highest ranking since 1999
The Johnnies continue their ascent of the polls.
St. John’s is ranked No. 12 in the latest Associated Press top 25 men’s basketball poll released on Monday afternoon, marking their highest ranking since they finished the 1998-99 season ranked ninth in the country.
The Red Storm are also ranked No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, the highest among Big East teams, and their best ranking in the Coaches Poll. This also marks their first appearance in the top ten of the Coaches’ Poll since the end of the 1998-99 season.
Two other Big East teams join St. John’s in the AP Top 25 poll, and they will both face the Johnnies this week. The Red Storm host No. 11 Marquette at Madison Square Garden in a clash between the top two Big East teams on Tuesday night (6:30 p.m., FS1), then they will travel up to Storrs, Connecticut to face No. 19 UConn in a nationally televised game on Friday night (8:00 p.m., FOX).
Entering Monday with a first-place standing of 10-1 in the Big East, St. John’s are enjoying their best start in conference play since their fabled 1984-85 season in which they reached their second-ever Final Four.
