The Johnnies are projected as the No. 16 overall seed in the East Region hosted in Newark, New Jersey
With one month until Selection Sunday, St. John’s is well-positioned for a high seed in the NCAA tournament.
The selection committee revealed St. John’s is on track to be a 4-seed in their tournament bracket preview on Saturday afternoon. The Johnnies were the 16th and final team announced in the preview and were the only Big East team among the top 16.

If the regular season ended today, not only would St. John’s have a favorable path to their first NCAA tournament win since 2000, but they would play close to home. As a 4-seed in the East Region, the Johnnies would play their first and second-round games in Providence, Rhode Island, and they would play in Newark, New Jersey if they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
St. John’s is in the midst of a dream season with Rick Pitino at the helm. The Johnnies are off to their best start since the 1985-86 season with a record of 21-4 and are in first place in the Big East conference with a record of 12-2.
The No. 9 St. John’s Red Storm looks to preserve their place in the top sixteen when they face No. 24 Creighton at Madison Square Garden tomorrow afternoon (3 p.m., FS1).
