Taylor originally pledged to Grand Canyon in May, but he portalled again and landed at another power conference team
Every St. John’s men’s basketball departee has found a landing spot on Monday. Well, at least for now.
On3’s Joe Tipton reports that St. John’s transfer Glenn Taylor, Jr. has committed to Oklahoma.
Taylor originally entered the transfer portal on April 2 in what was considered a “mutual parting” between the junior forward and the St. John’s coaching staff. In his official announcement post on Twitter, he wrote that he was keeping an “open line of communication” with the Red Storm coaching staff, entertaining the possibility of returning to Queens for his senior season.
After receiving interest from other schools like Oklahoma State and Memphis, Taylor committed to burgeoning mid-major power Grand Canyon in late May. Still, his time as an Antelope only lasted two weeks when he re-entered the transfer portal on June 3. Over a month later, Taylor is back on a power conference team.
Taylor was a part of Rick Pitino’s ten-man transfer class in the spring of 2023, transferring to St. John’s after regularly starting for Oregon State in his first two collegiate seasons.
The Las Vegas native struggled to find consistency on a crowded St. John’s roster. Making 21 starts in 33 games played in his only season for the Red Storm, Taylor averaged 4.4 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 44.9% from the field and 42.4% from three.
Despite his season-long battles with inconsistency, Glenn Taylor Jr. did have his moments as a Johnny.
On February 25, Taylor was primarily responsible for holding Baylor Scheierman to 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting in an 80-66 win over No. 15 Creighton that St. John’s desperately needed to get back on the tournament bubble. In his next game on February 28, Taylor tallied a season-high 17 points and sank five threes in an 82-59 steamrolling of Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Taylor is the third St. John’s men’s basketball player to transfer this offseason. Earlier this summer, forward Drissa Traore departed for Rhode Island and Cruz Davis left for Hofstra.
