The series titled “Pitino: Red Storm Rising” is set to premiere in February 2025 and focuses on the Hall of Fame coach’s career and the Johnnies’ quest to return to the NCAA tournament
St. John’s basketball fans will get a behind-the-scenes look at the Red Storm next year.
Vice Media announced they will produce an original sports docuseries titled Pitino: Red Storm Rising, which will focus on Rick Pitino and St. John’s men’s basketball team as part of the launch of their sports programming division Vice Sports. The series is set to premiere in February 2025.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, Pitino: Red Storm Rising follows St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino and the Red Storm as the team works to end a long-running Big East title drought and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament while looking back at Pitino’s storied career.
The show will anchor Vice Sports’ prime-time programming slate alongside another college basketball documentary series focusing on Arkansas head coach (and longtime rival of Pitino’s) John Calipari and the Razorbacks’ men’s basketball season.
This upcoming series marks the first time in over two decades that Red Storm fans will get an exclusive look at the team. Back in 2002, head coach Mike Jarvis and the St. John’s men’s basketball team were featured as part of ESPN’s documentary series The Season.
With a record of 8-2, the St. John’s men’s basketball team will return to action when they open their Big East season against the DePaul Blue Demons at Carnesecca Arena on Tuesday, December 17 (6:30 p.m., Peacock).
