The Johnnies are a consensus tournament team, but bracketologists differ on where they should be seeded
We will get a full 68-team bracket on Selection Sunday, exactly 50 days from today. Of course, so much can change in the next month, but many bracketologists expect St. John’s to be in the tournament as it stands and earn a favorable first-round draw based on their résumé and metrics.
BracketMatrix.com compiles the brackets from many bracketologists around the college basketball media sphere, whether from major sports networks like ESPN or CBS or independent sites like Erik Haslam’s Haslametrics or Bart Torvik’s T-Ranketology. As of January 25, the Johnnies are included in all eighty brackets considered on the site, with an average seeding of 6.80, placing them in the ballpark of a 7-seed.
Here is where several notable bracketologists are seeding St. John’s:
- Joe Lunardi, ESPN: Midwest 6-seed versus 11-seed Texas or UCF
- Jerry Palm, CBS Sports: South 8-seed versus 9-seed UCF
- Mike DeCourcy, FOX Sports: East 6-seed versus 11-seed Ohio State or Wake Forest
- Andy Katz, NCAA.com: South 6-seed versus 11-seed Indiana
- Bart Torvik, T-Ranketology: 7-seed
- DJ Bauer, Bauertology: South 7-seed versus 10-seed Pittsburgh
- Rocco Miller, Bracketeer: Midwest 6-seed versus 11-seed Drake or Wake Forest
- Chris Dobbertean, Blogging the Bracket: South 9-seed versus 8-seed Clemson
- Lukas Harkins, Heat Check CBB: East 7-seed versus 10-seed Saint Mary’s
For their next game, the No. 20 St. John’s men’s basketball team (17-3, 8-1 Big East) will travel down to Washington, D.C., where they will take on the Georgetown Hoyas (13-7, 4-5 Big East) on Tuesday, January 28 (6:30 p.m., FS1).
