Four-star guard Kiyan Anthony, the son of SU basketball legend Carmelo Anthony, has committed to Syracuse, he announced Friday. Anthony made the decision public via live stream on Carmelo’s web series “7PM in Brooklyn.” He’s the No. 34 overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, per 247sports. Anthony chose the Orange over USC.
Hailing from Glen Head, New York, Anthony spent last season playing for Long Island Lutheran High School. Anthony began his high school career at Christ the King (New York) before transferring to LuHI as a sophomore on Feb. 5, 2023.
Over the past few seasons, Anthony has developed as a scorer and continued to climb the recruiting rankings. When he left Christ the King, Anthony stood at 6-foot-3 and was the No. 62 overall player in his class. Anthony is now 6-foot-5 and a consensus four-star recruit.
Syracuse first offered Anthony on Nov. 13, 2022, the first Power Four school to do so. Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Florida State, Maryland and Michigan followed suit. Anthony made his first official visit to SU’s campus on Oct. 19, 2023.
He posted pictures with Carmelo, posing the question “Carry the torch?” in an Instagram post while donning a Syracuse jersey. Carmelo led SU to its only NCAA title in 2003 in his lone season with the Orange. The then-freshman averaged 22.2 points per game before embarking on a 19-year NBA career.
Throughout Anthony’s recruiting process, Carmelo left the decision up to Anthony. Anthony also stated Carmelo never pushes him to “follow in his footsteps.” On Oct. 1, Anthony shortened his list of schools to just three — Syracuse, USC and Auburn — but ultimately chose Syracuse.
Anthony is SU’s fourth recruit in the 2025 recruiting class. He joins five-star forward Sadiq White Jr., three-star forward Aaron Womack and four-star guard Luke Fennell, who committed on May 29, Sept. 30 and Oct. 23, respectively. Prior to Anthony’s commitment, Syracuse had the No. 17 overall 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
