Syracuse forward Daniel Burko earned Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors alongside Stanford midfielder Fletcher Bank, the conference announced Tuesday.
After playing sparingly in the Orange’s first six games, Burko’s workload increased this week against Canisius and Louisville. On Sept. 17, Burko scored a spin-around shot in the 38th minute versus the Golden Griffins to extend SU’s lead to 3-0, in an eventual 5-1 win.
On Friday, the Division II Lincoln Memorial transfer earned his first start of the season against Louisville. In the 73rd minute, Cardinals goalkeeper Harvey Sellers got aggressive and tried to cut off Braedon Smith’s pass. Sellers missed, however, and the scramble ended with the ball on Burko’s foot. He slotted it into the back of the cage and gave SU a 1-0 advantage in an eventual draw.
Last season, the senior transfer scored 20 goals in 19 games with LMU, earning him South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a spot on the All-SAC First Team.
