Syracuse goalie Jimmy McCool and attack Owen Hiltz have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week for their play in the Orange’s 13-10 win over then-No. 7 Johns Hopkins Sunday, the conference announced Tuesday. McCool earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Hiltz took home the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week.
McCool tied a career-high with 12 saves and notched his first-career win over a top-10 program Sunday. The strong display comes two games after McCool conceded 10 goals and was benched in the third quarter of Syracuse’s shocking 15-14 loss to then-No. 15 Harvard on Feb. 22.
Hiltz recorded a team-high four goals versus the Blue Jays Sunday. He also dished to Luke Rhoa in the fourth quarter for the eventual game-winning score.
It’s the first time SU has swept the conference’s weekly awards since long pole midfielder Saam Olexo and midfielder Jake Stevens picked up the honors following Syracuse’s upset win against then-No. 2 Johns Hopkins on March 9, 2024.
McCool and Hiltz are the third and fourth SU players to claim ACC honors this season. Michael Leo garnered the conference’s first Offensive Player of the Week of the campaign on Feb. 4 after netting a career-high four goals in the Orange’s season-opener versus Jacksonville. Joey Spallina secured the honor on Feb. 11 for his 10-point (five goals, five assists) showing versus Vermont on Feb. 7.
