Syracuse tight end Oronde Gadsden II earned Atlantic Coast Conference Receiver of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday. The award is the first of the season for Gadsden and comes following eight receptions, 102 yards and a touchdown in SU’s loss to Boston College.
Gadsden recorded just two receptions in Syracuse’s win over Virginia Tech the week prior. As the Orange moved him to the outside more and into the regular tight end slot against BC, he got going.
Midway through the second quarter, Gadsden started the drive with a 30-yard catch down the right side to move the chains. A few plays later, he got SU on the board with a spectacular one-handed catch in the right corner of the end zone, fighting off a defender in the process.
Gadsden added on multiple receptions in the second half as the Orange clawed back and forth with the Eagles. He finished with a team-high in catches and his third game with over 100 receiving yards in 2024. The tight end is now up to 45 receptions, 586 receiving yards and four touchdowns on the season.
He’s Syracuse’s 10th player to earn ACC weekly honors in 2024. Marlowe Wax first earned the honor after his Week 1 performance while Kyle McCord and left tackle and Da’Metrius Weatherspoon won weekly awards following SU’s Week 2 win over then-No. 23 Georgia Tech.
Jackson Meeks was named the conference’s Wide Receiver of the Week after a big day versus Holy Cross. Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. and edge rusher Fadil Diggs earned honors after SU’s overtime win over UNLV. Meeks and Justin Barron then received the award after their performances against NC State. Wax won the award a second time following SU’s victory over Virginia Tech.
