The Orange and Vols faced off last year in Hawai’i, with Tennessee coming out on top 73-56. This year’s rematch takes place in Knoxville, where SU holds a 1-2 all-time record.
The Vols lost SEC Player of the Year and 21.7 PPG forward Dalton Knecht to the Los Angeles Lakers, while the Orange also need a new top-scorer after Judah Mintz signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. Both were extremely active in the offseason: Tennessee landed three high-profile transfers, while ‘Cuse loaded up on their own portal additions and recruits, recently adding an international rookie as well.
The Orange will have an earlier taste of the SEC when they face former BIG 12 powerhouse Texas in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn.
FLJ and the ladies will have to adapt without Dyaisha Fair leading the attack, but enough of their core from last season, including second scoring threat Georgia Woolley, is intact to maintain some consistency. They just named their team captains for the upcoming year, one of whom is a transfer in.
TA&M and fellow third-year head coach Joni Taylor will attempt to build on their own NCAA Tournament appearance, returning 52% shooter Aica Coulibaly and former Arizona transfer Lauren Ware (nine double-doubles).
You can check out the Syracuse men’s and women’s non-conference schedules now, then come back tomorrow after their full ACC slates drop. We do know the men will open up ACC play December 7 at Notre Dame, while the women host the Irish on the 8th.
