To conclude the regular season, Syracuse track and field traveled to Ithaca, New York, on Saturday to compete in Cornell’s Marc Deneault Invitational.
On a day that featured only SU women, Caroline Kirby, a senior distance runner, led the way, winning the women’s mile with a 5:06.14 time. Sophomore Leah Futey finished second in the same event, clocking in at 5:09.83. Lucy Zombek (5:52.78) and Kayla Harding (6:08.54) also finished in the top 20.
In the women’s 60-meter hurdles, Marissa Saunders (8.95) finished second and just ahead of seniors Kirstyn Schechter (9.34) and Olivia Etienvre (9.36), who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Senior Olivia Garner’s 7.67 time placed her second in the women’s 60-meter dash.
Shayla Ford, a sophomore, ran 1:01.40 and earned second place in the women’s 400-meter, an event that saw freshman Mia Hernandez finish ninth with a 1:04.58 time.
In the women’s 3000-meter run, senior Nyah Hernandez was the first of four Orange to finish in the top eight, with a time of 10:05.74 that took fourth place. Bethany Steiner (10:06.75), Lauren Augustyn (10:20.82) and Olivia Shattuck (10:24.63) finished fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively.
Mia Dubrovsky secured a fifth-place finish in the 600-meter run, recording a 1:52.36 time.
In the 800-meter event, Lizzie Bigelow was Syracuse’s top performer, claiming seventh place with a 2:24.09 time. Blake Parker followed in ninth at 2:31.01, while Emily Rutkowski rounded out the top 10, finishing in 2:31.93.
The Orange will start competing in the ACC Championships next Saturday.
