The Sunshine State native had flipped to Florida from Syracuse earlier this year.
Syracuse Orange football picked up a big recruiting win on Sunday night as 2025 four-star DB Demetres Samuel Jr. committed to the Orange. Samuel was an original 2026 Syracuse commit before reclassing to 2025 and committing to Florida earlier this year.

Samuel originally committed to the Orange in March before decommitting, reclassifying to 2025 and committing to Florida in July. Samuel was in the JMA Wireless Dome this past weekend for Syracuse’s game against Holy Cross this weekend. He is a consensus four-star recruit and consensus top-52 player in the state of Florida for the 2025 class.
Samuel wasn’t the only high-rated recruit to decommit from the Orange after Izayia Williams also decommit to stay in Florida. Williams eventually committed to Florida State in September, staying as a 2026 commit.
Samuel immediately becomes Syracuse’s highest-rated recruit for the class of 2025 among all recruiting services and the only four-star recruit in the Orange 2025 recruiting class so far. He also becomes Syracuse’s fifth-highest ever non-transfer recruit since recruiting ratings started according to 247sports. Syracuse continues to grow one of its largest-ever recruiting class with 29 commits in Fran Brown’s first class he has full control over as the head of the Orange.
