The Shrine Bowl gives some of the top college players who are draft-eligible the ability to participate in an ‘all-star’ style game that gives them the chance to showcase their skills in front of NFL scouts and executives.
This year’s edition of the Shrine Bowl will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on January 30th. Meeks becomes the 6th Syracuse player selected to the game, which ties Colorado for the most participants, and sets a new Syracuse school record,
Coming into this season, most NFL scouts will not have heard Meeks’ name. The Alabama native had a quiet first three seasons of college football at Georgia, where he caught only 10 passes for zero touchdowns and spent most of his time with the special teams unit.
After arriving at SU, Meeks enjoyed a breakout year where he racked up 78 catches, seven touchdowns, and 1021 yards in 13 games. Meeks’ reliable hands and consistency in an NFL-style offense marshaled by Kyle McCord demonstrated how he may have potential at the next level.
The Shrine Bowl will serve as an excellent opportunity for Meeks to demonstrate his skill set to NFL scouts. He will have to make the most out of what will likely only be a few chances, but this could be a potential route for seeing another Syracuse alum in the NFL.
