Holders of Syracuse career passing records sigh in relief
In a surprising bit of news, Syracuse Orange quarterback Kyle McCord in 2025 will declare for the NFL Draft and not pursue his NCAA eligibility waiver.

According to Thamel, McCord said
“With the way everything played itself out and what I’m hearing in terms of feedback at the draft, it just makes sense to go, after weighing all the options out.”
What’s played out is that already Carson Beck, Drew Allar, and Garrett Nussmeier have decided to return to college football, clearing some room for McCord to rise up the QB draft rankings even before he gets to the East-West Shrine Bowl.
McCord coming back would have bene huge news for Fran Brown and the Orange as they anticipate playing a difficult schedule beginning with the opening game in Atlanta against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Now the Orange will be turning to younger quarterbacks Rickie Collins, Jakhari Williams, Luke Carney and Rich Bellin to see which one emerges as the leader to run Jeff Nixon’s offense. Of course there is still a little over a week for any CFP quarterbacks to enter the portal and transfer to Syracuse. If not, there is still the spring portal period should the Orange continue to look for an experienced signal-caller.
We’ll have more on the impact of this news in the coming days. Until then, pick up some Terrell’s chips and grab your DART pilsner and re-watch the 2024 games (except for Pitt).
Good luck Kyle! Thanks again Ryan Day!
