Syracuse fans will be familiar with a Lisfranc injury. It is the same injury that Syracuse tight end Oronde Gadsden II suffered last season that kept him sidelined for the entire year. Lisfranc injuries can take over a year to recover, but the Orange training staff helped Gadsden return to the field for opening day this season.
Nixon served as the primary backup running back to LeQuint Allen this season after transferring to Syracuse from Washington. In three games of action, Nixon rushed 19 times for 76 yards and caught four passes for 44 yards. He served as a solid backup option to Allen who could keep the ball moving downfield for Syracuse’s dynamic offense.
With Nixon out, Syracuse turns to true freshman Yasin Willis as the backup running back to Allen. Willis saw limited action in Syracuse’s opening homestand before receiving more opportunities against UNLV due to Nixon’s absence and Allen’s limitations with his leg. Willis rushed eight times for 62 yards and scored his first touchdown of his Orange career.
Brown also provided an update on LB Marlowe Wax. The veteran was shown practicing with the Orange on Syracuse’s Instagram in the final picture of the post below. Brown said that Wax will still be out for two more weeks.
The next two weeks for Syracuse include a bye week and a Thursday night game at Pitt. That should mean that Wax returns for Syracuse’s return back home against Virginia Tech. Wax had been sidelined due to a lower body injury which he suffered in the second half of Syracuse’s opening game against Ohio. The Orange have adjusted with position changes in Wax’s absence, moving Justin Barron down to linebacker and moving Devin Grant to Barron’s STAR safety spot in the depth chart.
Update:
It looks like Dion Wilson and Kevin Jobity are also going to be out for the season. Lots of opportunity now for young lineman to get on the field.
Brown says here that defensive linemen Dion “Tank” Wilson and Kevin Jobity Jr. are likely out for the rest of the season.
Wilson had missed a game a few weeks ago but played the past two games.
Two big losses for the DL.
Says DB Berry Buxton also likely to miss this week. https://t.co/dZmGHq9klk
