Fran Brown gave the updates on ESPN Radio Syracuse on Thursday
The Syracuse Orange are entering the final third of the regular season. As Saturday’s game against Boston College approaches, Fran Brown gave updates on two key players for the Orange. He first addressed the return of wide receiver Zeed Haynes.
On @ESPNSyracuse Fran Brown says Yazeed Haynes needs a couple weeks of practice before he returns to game action. So far he is working out in the weightroom but has not been participating in on-field practices.

Syracuse’s WR1 on opening day has been away from the program since the Orange game against Stanford. He was spotted back on the Cuse sidelines during last week’s game against Virginia Tech. As Syracuse.com’s Chris Carlson points out, Brown commented that Haynes has yet to return to on-field practices. The redshirt freshman has been away from the team due to a personal family issue that has not been disclosed.
Brown also commented on true freshman DB Marcellus Barnes. When healthy, Barnes has played a significant amount of snaps at cornerback. However, it sounds like the season is over for Barnes.
Fran Brown just now on #OrangeNation:
“I don’t think Marcellus Barnes will play anymore this year.”

Unfortunately for Barnes, he featured in Syracuse’s game last week against Virginia Tech, which was his fifth game he played in this season. That means he is not eligible for a redshirt. He missed three games in the middle of the season also due to injury. Barnes finishes his freshman campaign with 11 total tackles and three pass break-ups.
The Orange take on Boston College on Saturday at 12:00 pm ET looking to improve on their 6-2 record.
