It was a mixed bag among the nine Orange alums on active rosters
Syracuse Orange football is off this week, but SU alums in the NFL won’t have much rest over the coming weeks as their seasons get underway. Here’s how each faired over the Opening Weekend:
Matthew Bergeron – The former 2nd round pick did not start his second NFL season on the best note, allowing three pressures including a sack in Atlanta’s loss to Pittsburgh. PFF gave him a meager 29.5 pass-blocking grade – easily the worst of his career – as he was no match for the Steelers’ Alex Highsmith.
Andre Cisco – Contributed four tackles (two solo) as part of a strong defensive effort, but was beat once for a long touchdown as the Jags lost the battle of Florida’s Atlantic Coast to the Dolphins 20-17.
Tommy DeVito – Tommy Cutlets did not make an appearance on Sunday, despite Daniel Jones struggling immensely in the New York Giants’ 28-6 loss to Minnesota – his average of only 4.4 yards per pass and passer rating of 44 and change are all the omens you need for a QB change.
Riley Dixon – The Denver Broncos’ punter may be entitled to overtime pay after booting the ball away eight times with nearly a 50-yard average in their loss to the Seahawks. Not only that, he pinned Seattle at their own 1-yard line on a 65-yard punt, setting up one of Denver’s two safeties on the afternoon. #SpecialTeamsMatter
Zaire Franklin – After breaking the Colts’ single-season tackle record in back-to-back years, Zaire got off to another hot start, with eight tackles (four solo) and an 80.9 PFF tackling grade in Indy’s close loss to Houston.
Trishton Jackson – Though he made it onto the Vikings’ roster this season, Jackson was not targeted in the team’s victory over New York.
Ifeatu Melifonwu – Iffy has been delayed in his efforts to follow up a breakout season, as an ankle injury kept him out of Detroit’s Sunday Night matchup with the Rams.
Sean Tucker – Currently the third-string RB on the Bucs and did not receive any touches in their 37-20 win against the Commanders.
Garrett Williams – Had three solo tackles in Arizona’s loss at Buffalo, also saying hi to a former teammate and the new Orange QB:
