It might be a while before we see Freeman back on the court
During today’s ACC coaches call, Syracuse Orange HC Adrian Autry offered a little more information on Donnie Freeman’s status.
Asked by Syracuse.com’s Donna Ditota for an update, Autry shared that they are waiting for the injury to heal. “It’s more about the healing process and seeing where he’s at”, said Autry before adding that Freeman’s return “would be his call, his and his family.”
Autry also offered that Freeman is currently limited to non weight-bearing activities at this time, “he’s still doing some stuff…some non-weight bearing stuff, just walking and you know slow stuff, nothing too (rigorous)”
If Freeman isn’t cleared for practice, it’s likely he’ll be missing more time. At this point in the season, it doesn’t make sense for him to rush back. Will it impact Freeman’s decision at the end of the year? Something to keep an eye on for sure.
During the call, Autry also indicated that Syracuse needs to create good opportunities for three-pointers and not just taking them to get a certain amount. He mentioned driving and kicking or coming off screens and taking open shots as being important.
Autry also shared some comments about his other two freshmen. Asked about Petar Majstorovic, he said “He’s a guy that does all the dirty work, has a high IQ, and has a lot of energy”. Autry added that Petar needs to be smart about shot selection and continue adapt to the speed and physicality”
Asked about Elijah Moore finally ending his scoreless drought, the Syracuse coach said this,
“You know it’s always important, especially for a guy like Elijah who works really hard and you know you just want to see that hard work rewarded and I was just happy that he had a couple of shots, you know a shot fell down for him….we talk about all the ups and downs of a season and obviously he just went through one and hopefully can back on the upswing and we need him….we need all the production that we can get from everyone that’s on the court”
We’ll see if the Orange can get that production on Wednesday night at Clemson.
