In its final regular-season meet at Cornell Friday, Syracuse men’s and women’s cross country put up a strong showing at the John Reif Memorial.
Freshman Ben Gabelman took home first place in the men’s 5k with a time of 14:33.5. Asher Danielson placed second with a time of 14:47.7. Not too far behind Danielson was Sam Ricchiuti in third, with sophomore Julian Franjieh finishing fourth (14:59.1). Fellow sophomore Solomon Holden-Betts (15:00.4) and junior Gabriel Plenty (15:00.6) rounded out the top-six sweep.
Over on the women’s side, senior Justus Holden-Betts claimed the top spot in the women’s 5k with a 17:48.1 time. Junior Bethany Steiner finished second, finishing in 17:56.7. In third was junior Caroline Kirby (18:18.9), with sophomore Leah Futey (18:33.6) taking fourth. The Orange would also claim the next five spots in the race, with junior Olivia Shattuck placing sixth with a 18:34.0. Three freshmen would round out the final three spots claimed by SU: Lauren Augustyn (18:40.2), Grace Finnegan (18:47.5) and Sarah Cobb (18:55.2).
Syracuse now has its sights set on the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Cary, North Carolina on Nov. 1.
