Syracuse men’s and women’s cross country concluded its season at the NCAA Championships on Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin, with each team earning a top-20 finish in their respective races. Only 12 other schools achieved this placement.
The men’s squad placed 11th out of 31 schools with 342 points. BYU claimed the top spot with 124 points, and 13 points behind them in second was Iowa State. Arkansas placed third (202 points), with Wisconsin (212 points) and Northern Arizona (237 points) rounding out the top five.
Junior Sam Lawler was first to cross the finish line for SU, placing 28th with a time of 29:20.6. Lawler earned an All-American honor for his performance in the Men’s 10000m. Then, Assaf Harari finished 71st with a time of 29:41.4, while Alex Comerford placed 76th in 29:43.7. Redshirt freshman Benne Anderson barely snuck inside the top 100, placing 91st with a 29:51.6 time.
Scoring 512 points, the women’s team placed 20th in the 6000m. BYU finished first with 147 points. Not too far behind in second was West Virginia with 164 points. Providence placed third (183 points), with Northern Arizona (206 points) and Oregon (210 points) taking fourth and fifth place respectively.
Senior Savannah Roark led the way for the women, placing 101st with a 20:32.1 time. Five spots behind the redshirt senior was junior Emma Eastman, who crossed the line in 20:33.7. Senior Rylie Lusk finished 115th with a time of 20:37.9 and freshman Selma Anderson placed 154th (20:49.9).
