Field Hockey, volleyball and cross-country sweep their weekends
The Syracuse Orange athletics season is in full swing so we are back with these weekly recaps as we look to broaden our coverage of the Olympic sports.
Field Hockey (2-0, 0-0)
The Orange went to Pennsylvania this weekend and defeated Lock Haven (9-0) and #16 Penn State (2-1). Graduate student Bo van Kempen led the way with three goals on the weekend while Louise Pert and Vera Hekkenberg split the time in goal for the Orange.
Syracuse returns home to face #14 Ohio State next Sunday afternoon.
Women’s Soccer (4-1-1, 0-0)
Syracuse won a 1-0 decision at home against Northwestern on Thursday before falling 2-1 at Cornell yesterday. Shea Vanderbosch made 13 saves in the two contests, including 8 in the clean sheet against Northwestern.

The Orange travel to play Binghamton on Thursday.
Volleyball (3-0, 0-0)
Syracuse surpassed last season’s win total by taking all three games in the Salt City Classic. Wins over NJIT, Lafayette and Canisius came with the Orange only dropping one game.

Syracuse heads to NYC next weekend to face Columbia, Fordham and Manhattan.
Cross-Country
Syracuse dominated the Harry Lang Invitational at Colgate on Saturday. With many of the top runners held out, both the men and women swept with 15 points.
Baneet Bains, Madeline Heintz, Jayden Harberts, Grace Finnegan and Beatriz Fernandes were the top five finishers for the women. Julian Franjeh, Eamon Burke, Kamari Miller, Ruben Rojas Betanzos, and Solomon Holden-Betts were the top five in the men’s race.
Syracuse begins the regular season with a trip to the Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State on September 13th.
