Syracuse field hockey (5-2, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) remained at No. 15 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Week 3 Poll, which was released Tuesday morning. The Orange lost to then-No. 2 North Carolina 5-0 Friday, before defeating Longwood 4-0 Sunday.
Though at the same spot as last week, SU received 328 points on the Week 3 Poll compared to its 300 in Week 2. Against UNC, the Orange fell behind quickly. The Tar Heels scored in each quarter, putting up 13 shots on the day compared to SU’s six. Syracuse couldn’t get anything going on offense, receiving just three penalty corners and falling in a 5-0 shutout.
On Sunday against Longwood, though, the script flipped. Syracuse came out firing, attempting a season-high 24 shots, 18 of which were on goal. With Bo van Kempen, Vivian Rowan, Lieke Leeggangers and Hattie Madden each scoring, SU shut out Longwood 4-0, its third shutout win of the season.
Syracuse travels to face two ACC opponents this weekend. The Orange take on Wake Forest Friday before heading to Durham to face Duke on Sunday.
