What’s better than one bye week? TWO bye weeks!
Teams: Syracuse Orange (5-1, 2-1) vs. Bye Week Fightin’ Byes (0-6, 0-0)
Day & Time: Saturday, October 19, 12:00 pm
Location: Somewhere not the JMA Wireless Dome
Line: Syracuse for once is a -44 favorite.
TV/Streaming: Chick-fil-A Streaming
Rivalry: 135-0, Syracuse
Current Streak: 135, Syracuse
First Meeting: Before the era of modern football, Syracuse somehow defeated Bye Week University 1-0. People quickly realized that was stupid and changed football rules to make scoring one singular point nearly impossible now.
Last Meeting: Syracuse won 42-0 over Bye Week U with no touchdowns and 14 field goals.
Head Coaches: Syracuse – Fran Brown (first year, 5-1) | Bye Week U – Bran Frown (first year, 0-6)
Coach Bio: Frown used his southwest roots developed in Arizona to convince Bye Week AD Wohn Jildhack to hire him as the next head coach of the Fightin’ Byes. A former Eastern Carolina player, Frown developed as a wide receivers coach in his various assistant coaching stints before joining Bye Week U.
Last Year: Bye Week fans finally had enough of eight straight winless seasons under Bino Dabers and the Fightin’ Byes let him go at the end of the season.
Last Game: Bye Week U was the latest victim of Ashton Jeanty’s tour de force, as he somehow put up 300 yards of rushing and was taken out of the game after 4 minutes into the first quarter.
“Fear Me, I’ve Killed Hundreds of Timelords”: Coach Frown has switched to a wildcat formation, a la Syracuse during the latter part of 2023. Van Dillari is the new starting QB in the system, and he’s using the wildcat to actually throw more instead of run, which has been a choice.
If Syracuse Wins: Rank them, you cowards.
If Syracuse Loses: Rank them, you cowards.
Fun Fact: Kyle McCord has tied Ryan Nassib and Eric Dungey for most 300-yard passing games in a season. Nassib did it in 2012 while Dungey did it in 2016.
