Stevens has been with the Sparks for the last two seasons.
Azura Stevens is sticking around in LA. On Thursday, the Los Angeles Sparks signed the former UConn forward to a one-year extension through the 2025 season. The team did not disclose the details of the contract.
“I’m incredibly excited to continue my journey with the Los Angeles Sparks and keep building with my teammates,” said Stevens. “This organization has believed in and supported me the last two seasons, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to continue to call LA home and build something special here.”
Stevens missed the beginning of the season after undergoing surgery on her left arm but has put up 11.3 points and 6.6 rebounds in eight games since returning. Across her career, she’s averaged 9.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in 164 contests.
Drafted sixth overall by the Dallas Wings in 2018, Stevens spent two seasons in the Lone Star State before being traded to the Chicago Sky. She won a championship there in 2021 then signed with the Sparks as a free agent ahead of the 2023 campaign.
Stevens began her college career at Duke before transferring to UConn in 2016. After sitting out in 2016-17, she put up 14.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks off the bench for the Huskies. She won the AAC’s Newcomer and Sixth Player of the Year awards then went on to be named the AAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
After that season, Stevens surprised the team by foregoing her final year of eligibility and entering the WNBA Draft.
The Sparks are currently 11th in the standings with a 6-22 record.
