Darius Adams, the five-star shooting guard from La Lumiere (IN) and the PSA Cardinals, announced his commitment to two-time defending NCAA champion UConn on Monday.
The 6-foot-5 New Jersey native chose the Huskies over Tennessee and Michigan State, and becomes UConn’s first pledge in the Class of 2025. He is ranked the No. 4 shooting guard in the 247Sports Composite.
“First and foremost, it’s close to home,” he said in a 247Sports announcement from his Manasquan, N.J. home. “And then just the coaching staff, loved being around them. Their intensity in practice I really like, I want to be pushed hard. I want to earn something, so I think I’ll do that there.”
Adams visited UConn unofficially this summer and then officially this fall. He bonded with fellow New Jersey native Dan Hurley.
“Everyone has the same goal there, they want to get better,” Adams said. “And I want to put myself in that position. He makes players better, the way he gets his players open, is just amazing, honestly. And I’m excited for it.”
Several of his coaches broke down his skillset for ZAGSBLOG.
“Darius is a three-level scorer with some of the best shot-making ability in the class,” PSA Cardinals coach Casey Williams said. “His will to win and leadership is contagious which will allow him to contribute day one in college!”
Said La Lumiere coach Pat Holmes: “Darius is a gifted scorer that brings toughness and competitiveness to any program he is a part of. Darius uses his scoring ability to set up teammates, and he has consistently shown that he will make the right play when the ball is in his hands. Defensively Darius loves to compete and show that he can be a high level defender as he continues to grow.”
UConn remains in the mix for several elite prospects, including Acaden Lewis, Meleek Thomas, Braylon Mullins, Eric Reibe and Niko Bundalo.
