Casparius started Game 4 of the Fall Classic.
The Los Angeles Dodgers vanquished the New York Yankees in five games on Wednesday night and with that result, two former UConn baseball players got World Series wins in Ben Casparius and Eric Yavarone.
Casparius made his first career start in the World Series, getting the ball in Game 4 as part of a bullpen game for the Dodgers. In that contest, he threw two innings and allowed just one run on hit, though he did walk three. He also struck out a hitter.
The Westport, Connecticut native was left off the NLDS roster but was selected for the NLCS against the New York Mets and pitched 4 1⁄3 innings over three appearances. He did not allow a run and scattered just a pair of hits. He struck out four and walked two, getting the win in the decisive Game 6.
Yavarone serves as the Director of Performance Scouting and a strength and conditioning coach. He played for the Huskies from 2012-2015, getting in 177 games as an outfielder. He had a .262 career average and played in one game as a professional for Quebec of the Can-Am League.
Casparius was the sixth former Husky to play in the World Series and along with George Springer and Matt Barnes, the third to win it.
