Acaden Lewis, the four-star point guard from Sidwell Friends in Washington, D.C., took an official visit to UConn this weekend.
It was the first of four scheduled visits, with trips to North Carolina (Oct. 4-6), Kentucky and Duke upcoming. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard is ranked the No. 5 point guard in the Class of 2025 by 247Sports.com.
“Their message was they see me as a player that can really come in and play right away,” Lewis said Sunday by phone of UConn. “And every year [coach Dan Hurley] readjusts his system and does different things for different players to not only make them look better but hide their weaknesses. I’m not saying that I have a bunch of weaknesses, but that’s always good to hear because it makes me look better for the next level.
“On top of that, they have a really great environment there, like the energy is different at practices and everything they do. I really like the whole staff, they really made a good impression, even though I already met them and I know them well. It was cool to talk to them for the weekend and just really hang out, really enjoyed talking to everybody. Hurley is an interesting character. I love those guys, i think they’re all bright basketball minds. I was really impressed, to be honest, like really impressed.”
Lewis attended a couple of practices while at the home of the two-time defending NCAA champions.
“Yeah, I watched two,” he said. “They looked good, they looked sharp. Practices were really hard, their practices have really great pace. It’s really loud in the gym, the energy is great, it’s really impressive to be honest.”
Asked if he feels UConn is prioritizing him, he said, “Yeah, I’ve been a top priority since the day they reached out to me.”
Hurley and his staff visited Lewis at Sidwell Friends after meeting with President Biden at the White House.
Lewis hopes to decide sometime “by early November” following his four visits.
Wherever he goes, he plans to make an impact.
“I’m a point guard at heart but I can play off the ball, I can score as well as pass,” he said. “I do a little bit of both.”
