Demary, a former four-star recruit out of North Carolina, spent two seasons with the Bulldogs and has two years of eligibility remaining. Prior to committing to the Huskies, he was widely regarded as one of the top backcourt options in the transfer portal.
“Silas is the type of big guard we love at UConn and we can’t wait to get him in the mix,” UConn head coach Dan Hurley said in a statement. “He can score from all three levels, play-make and use his length to guard multiple positions. Silas comes from a great family and will fit our championship culture to a tee.”
In his freshman season, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, earning a selection to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
He took a big step forward in his sophomore year, turning in 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 31.5 minutes per game. The Bulldogs finished No. 12 in the SEC and matched up against Gonzaga in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where they were eliminated as a 9-seed.
Defensively, Demary totaled 106 steals in his two seasons as a Bulldog, and even recorded 16 blocks his freshman year. He has shot a career 35.3% from the three-point line and shot 37.4% from beyond the arc this season. From the free-throw line, he has shot a career 75.4%, again upping that number this past season to 80.4%.
UConn has now gained its first recruit out of the portal this offseason, with Demary set to join freshmen Darius Adams, Jacob Furphy, Braylon Mullins and Eric Reibe in next year’s incoming class. The Huskies still have five open scholarships to give out, meaning next year’s class will only grow over the coming weeks. With Solo Ball and Jaylin Stewart both having announced their returns to the program, UConn still awaits the decisions of Alex Karaban, Tarris Reed and Jayden Ross in anticipation of how next season’s roster will shake out.
