UConn alumni now occupy two of the WNBA’s 13 general manager positions.
UConn women’s basketball’s influence in the WNBA is now spreading to front offices. On Tuesday, the Connecticut Sun promoted Morgan Tuck to general manager after she’d spend the previous two seasons as an assistant GM. She replaces Darius Taylor, who will move to a new role as Chief Basketball Strategist and Director of Scouting.
“I am honored and excited to take on this new role with the Sun,” Tuck said in a statement. “Being able to be a part of this organization in various roles has prepared me for this moment, and I’m extremely appreciative for the guidance and support that I have received from our staff and ownership group. This is an exciting time for the Sun, and I’m eager to work alongside our coaching staff, players, and front office to continue the pursuit of our first championship. I look forward to this new chapter and the challenges ahead, as we aim to maintain a winning culture and create lasting memories for our fans.”
Tuck has spent eight years in the Sun organization — four as a player and four in the front office. She was taken third overall in the 2016 WNBA Draft, though chronic knee injuries limited her playing career to just five seasons. After retiring following the 2020 season, Tuck joined Connecticut as the team’s director of franchise development. She added the assistant GM title in November 2022.
“Morgan is a rising star in this industry,” Taylor said in a statement. “Watching her grow into the front office executive she has become has been nothing short of amazing. Her career has come full circle with the Connecticut Sun organization. I know she will be instrumental in propelling this organization to its fullest potential.”
Two of the WNBA’s 13 general managers have now graduated from UConn with Tuck joining the Atlanta Dream’s Dan Padover. During her time in Storrs, Tuck won four national championships and was named a WBCA and AP All-American in 2016.
She isn’t the only Husky in the Sun’s front office, too. The team’s president is Jennifer Rizzotti, who played at UConn from 1993-97.
