The 8-seed Huskies are favored in round one, but face long odds to three-peat.
UConn men’s basketball now knows its path to a potential three-peat as national champions. The two-time defending champs will have its work cut out for them as an 8-seed to get to San Antonio, but the Huskies are playing some its best basketball of the season as of late.
Dan Hurley and UConn will take on 9-Seed Oklahoma in the West Region. The Huskies’ first round game will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina, and FanDuel currently has UConn as a 4.5-point favorite over the Sooners. The over/under for the game is currently set at 146.5 points.
Oklahoma currently ranks No. 38 in KenPom and went 20-13 in the regular season. While the Sooners were just 6-12 in a loaded SEC, head coach Porter Moser’s OU squad boasts a top-25 offense in KenPom and shoots 37 percent from three.
Should the Huskies take down Oklahoma, UConn will likely have to square off against 1-seed Florida, assuming the Gators take care of 16-seed Norfolk State.
In a loaded region with the Gators, 2-seed St. John’s, 3-seed Texas Tech, 4-seed Maryland and 5-seed Memphis, UConn is not a favorite to win the West and advance to a third-straight Final Four. FanDuel gives the Huskies +2500 odds to make it San Antonio and +13000 odds to cut down the nets for a third-straight time.
