Bueckers was honored as the nation’s top point guard this season.
Paige Bueckers picked up another accolade as part of her legendary senior season, as the Hopkins, Minnesota native was named the 2025 Nancy Lieberman Award winner, given annually to the country’s best point guard. Bueckers was named the honor at halftime of the Huskies’ throttling of UCLA in the Final Four, where she poured in 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Heading into Sunday’s national championship, Bueckers is averaging 20 points, 4.7 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game this season. She has flirted with the vaunted 50-40-90 club all season, and currently is 53.9 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from three and 88.2 percent from the free throw line.
The Lieberman Award is another trophy on an already loaded shelf for Bueckers this season. She was named the 2025 WBCA Wade Trophy winner, given to the National Player of the Year and was named a WBCA First-Team All-American alongside Sarah Strong. After winning the AP, Naismith, USBWA and Wooden National Player of the Year Awards as a freshman, Bueckers claimed the last possible NPOY award this season after not being eligible to win it as a freshman. Bueckers is the fifth Husky to win the Lieberman Award, joining Sue Bird (2000-02), Diana Taurasi (2003, 2004), Renee Montgomery (2009) and Moriah Jefferson (2015, 2016).
The final cherry on top to Bueckers’ magnificent final season would be her first national championship. After Bueckers’ and the Huskies fell short to South Carolina in the national championship game in 2021, she has an opportunity for redemption Sunday. Bueckers has been incredible all tournament, scoring 30 or more in three-straight games to help UConn reach its 24th Final Four. With one more big game against the Gamecocks, a win to bring the Huskies its 12th national title would cement Bueckers’ senior season as one of the best in program history.
