Samuels never earned a consistent spot in the rotation during her two seasons at UConn.
The offseason is officially underway for UConn women’s basketball. On Thursday, sophomore guard Qadence Samuels entered the transfer portal, according to On3’s Talia Goodman.
A native of Forestville, Maryland, she joined the Huskies as the No. 41 player in the class of 2023. Samuels started strong with 11 points in her first career game against Dayton followed by 14 points in a loss at NC State. From there, she struggled with inconsistency but did play 14 minutes and hit a big 3-pointer in the 2024 Elite Eight win over USC.
This past season, Samuels found herself at the bottom of UConn’s stacked guard group and never cracked the rotation. She saw just 185 minutes of action across 32 games, well below her first-year total of 443. Despite all that, Samuels departs as a national champion.
The Huskies now have two open scholarships next season to work with in the transfer portal. They’ve been connected to Wisconsin center Serah Williams and could also use another ball-handler alongside KK Arnold with both Paige Bueckers and Kaitlyn Chen off to the pros.
