The Huskies’ leading receiver has entered the portal, which could spell the end of his time in Storrs.
After one season with UConn football, junior Skyler Bell has announced his intent to enter the transfer portal.
Bell led the Huskies in receiving this season, and he did so by a large margin. The junior appeared in all 12 games for UConn, leading the team in receiving yards (783) and yards per game (65.5), while also tying tight end Louis Hansen for most receiving touchdowns (four). He ranked second in receptions (47) and yards per reception (16.6).
This is an especially tough blow to the Huskies’ receiving core, who hoped to return Bell for his remaining years of eligibility as the team aims to replicate the success it’s had in 2024. Head coach Jim Mora knew he would have to look to the portal for additional receiving talent, but now that need will be stronger if Bell leaves.
Mora has said that any Husky who enters the portal is still likely to be recruited by the UConn staff to stick around. This includes Pryce Yates, a standout defensive end who is also in the portal. Mora and his staff are surely trying their hardest to keep Bell and Yates on the team next season.
Mora has also said that players in the portal plan to play in the Fenway Bowl on December 28, but it remains to be seen as we get closer to game day.
