Castle was selected by San Antonio with the No. 4 pick in the 2024 draft and has put on quite an impressive rookie season thus far, averaging 11.6 points, 3.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds in just over 25 minutes per game. He has emerged as a top contender for Rookie of the Year through 40 games played with his improving offensive game and standout defense.
At 6-foot-6, Castle has always had impressive bounce and dunking ability and he has brought that into the NBA in his first season. He leads all guards with 25 dunks so far this year.
Castle is just the fourth Spur all-time to participate in the event and his selection will mark the first appearance by a San Antonio Spur in almost 40 years. Greg Anderson last represented the team in the 1988 rendition of the event. No UConn player has even gone on to win the Slam Dunk Contest. but Andre Drummond did participate in the event in 2016.
He and the remaining three contestants will put their best dunks on display Feb. 15 at 8:00 p.m ET. Tune in to the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors, to see if Castle can take the crown home.
