Bird will be the eighth Husky enshrined in Knoxville.
Sue Bird is set to take her place among the greatest players in the history of the sport after being announced as an inductee into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame’s class of 2025. Enshrinement is set for June 14, 2025 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Bird is considered one of the all-time point guards in women’s basketball history and one of the greatest winners. She won two national titles at UConn in 2000 and 2002, claimed four WNBA championships with the Seattle Storm in 2004, 2010, 2018 and 2020, has four FIBA World Championships and five Olympic Gold Medals.
With the Huskies, Bird compiled 1,378 points and 585 assists while owning the program’s career 3-point (45.9) and free throw (89.2) percentage records. She’s the only UConn player ever to record a 50/40/90 season, doing so in 2001-02. That same year, she won every national player of the year award and was a consensus All-American.
Bird became the Huskies’ first No. 1 pick when the Storm selected her atop the 2002 WNBA Draft and she wound up spending her entire career with the franchise. A 13-time All-Star and five-time All-WNBA First Teamer, she retired in 2002 as the league’s all-time assists leader.
Since her playing days ended, Bird’s No. 10 has been retired by the Storm while the city of Seattle named a street after her.
Bird will be the eight Husky inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, joining Geno Auriemma (2006), Rebecca Lobo (2010), Jennifer Rizzotti (2013), Kara Wolters (2017), Chris Dailey (2018), Swin Cash (2021) and Maya Moore (2024). The rest of the 2025 inductee class features Alana Beard, Mark Campbell, Danielle Donechew, Lucille Kyvallos and Cappie Pondexter.
