The Huskies have gotten stronger in the trenches via the portal.
UConn football has gained commitments from two experienced transfers for 2025, defensive lineman Stephon Wright and offensive lineman Hayden Bozich.
Both players made their commitments to the Huskies official via X.
Wright, a native of Los Angeles, appeared in 10 games for Texas Southern as a grad student, recording 17.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. The former four-star recruit spent his prior three years with Southern Methodist, posting an interception, eight tackles, and half a sack for the Mustangs in 2022.
Injuries have derailed Wright’s college career; he did not appear in a game for SMU in 2021 or 2023 and made six appearances in two seasons at Arizona State. Now healthy and coming off his best collegiate season, Wright will join a Husky front that will have lots of playing time available.
Bozich, a 6-foot-7, 315-pound tackle, played three seasons with the Brown Bears before entering the transfer portal, earning First Team All-Ivy Honors in 2024 and Third Team All-Ivy Honors in 2023. He has appeared in 27 career games for the Bears, making 23 starts at both left and right tackle. The Steubenville, Ohio native has one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.
As the transfer portal continues to heat up, UConn will likely expect more additions and departures in the coming weeks. The 8-4 Huskies have one last game to play in 2024 when they head to the Wasabi Bowl at Fenway Park to take on UNC. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m.
