The Huskies had a meaningful win, but so did a few of their upcoming opponents.
UConn football moved to 2-2 on Saturday as the Huskies dismantled Florida Atlantic, 48-14, behind an all-time rushing performance. That’s second in program history and first in its FBS existence.
Here’s how their upcoming opponents fared over this past weekend.
Buffalo (3-1) – Sept. 28
The Bulls opened MAC play on Saturday at then-No. 23 Northern Illinois. The game went to overtime and the visitors came away with a 23-20 win. The Huskies led 14-3 at the half but needed to kick a field goal in the final minute to force overtime.
Despite gaining just 184 yards of offense and nine first downs, the Bulls were able to secure the win. They forced two turnovers but scored just three points.
CJ Ogbonna was 10-for-17 passing for 107 yards and a touchdown but lost 18 yards on the ground. Al-Jay Henderson ran 11 times for 56 yards and scored a TD as well.
Temple (1-3) – Oct. 5
Temple got into the win column for the first time on Saturday when Utah State came to town. The Aggies went up 14-0 and headed into the locker room with the lead, but on the back of a 24-0 run, the Owls secured a 45-29 win.
The home side gained 451 yards but surrendered 479 to Utah State. Temple forced the game’s only turnover and had a slight advantage in time of possession.
Evan Simon was all over the end zone, throwing for five scores against zero interceptions as part of a 17-for-27 day, throwing for 271 yards. He also ran for 49 yards on 11 carries, scoring another in the process. Nine players got a carry.
Wake Forest (1-2) – Oct. 19
The Demon Deacons will look to recover from their loss with a weekend off before they host Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.
Rice (1-3) – Oct. 26
Army hosted the Owls on Saturday afternoon and the Black Knights dominated from the jump, going up 28-0 by halftime on their way to a 37-14 victory over Rice. The Owls only punted once, but threw two interceptions and missed a field goal.
Meanwhile, Army scored on each of its possessions in the first half, then opened the second half by causing a safety. The option offense was too much for Rice, as the Black Knights gained more than 5.0 yards per rush.
EJ Warner was 22-for-43 passing for 235 yards with a pair of touchdowns and interceptions each. Dean Connors was the only back with more than one rush, going nine times for 51 yards.

It was a deadlock in yards, as Syracuse had 365 yards to 351 to Stanford, while each turned the ball over twice. The visitors also had two extra first downs.
Kyle McCord had a solid game, completing 27 of his 42 passes for 339 yards, but threw two touchdowns and interceptions. He also had a rushing touchdown, but had net negative yardage when sacked were included. The Orange only ran 17 times and gained 25 yards.
