The Huskies have a lot of playing time to offer on this side of the ball.
Three more defensive transfers have announced verbal commitments to UConn: redshirt freshman Vincent Jackson, redshirt senior Kolubah Pewee Jr., and redshirt junior Devin Pringle.
Jackson comes to UConn after spending two seasons with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He didn’t play his first year on campus and then appeared in 10 games in 2024. At 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, the interior lineman could see a massive uptick in snaps under defensive coordinator Matt Brock.
Pewee comes to Storrs by way of Georgetown. The cornerback played three seasons with the Hoyas, preceded by one redshirt season at the University of Maine. Pewee did not see action in 2022 either but played nine games in 2023 and all 11 games for the Hoyas in 2024. He recorded two interceptions and 12 pass deflections in two full seasons and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Pringle spent four seasons with Division II Grand Valley State University, serving as one of the team’s core defensive backs. He earned First-Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors in 2023 with 32 tackles, eight pass breakups, and one interception. In 2024, he tallied 44 tackles and eight pass breakups across 13 games, in which GVSU finished 11-2. Pringle and the Laker defense ranked No. 14 in yards surrendered per game (264.7) in all of Division II football.
Jackson is now the second defensive lineman to announce his commitment to join the program, following Stephon Wright of Texas Southern. On the other side of the ball, offensive lineman Hayden Bozich will join the Huskies after three seasons at Brown, bringing UConn’s total commitments out of the portal to five.
UConn is likely not done, considering the large number of outstanding transfer offers from players who have not yet announced their new teams. On top of that, there is still more than a week until the deadline for a player to enter the transfer portal closes (Dec. 28), and players can commit to new schools long after that.
Expect more departures and commitments to and from the program in the coming weeks. The Huskies will play their final game of the season on Dec. 28 against UNC at the Fenway Bowl.
