The Huskies are out of the top 25 for the first time since 2022.
The UConn men’s basketball team’s strenuous season continues, with the Huskies unranked in the latest AP top-25 poll for the first time since November of 2022.
Voters snapped a 51-consecutive week rank streak for the Huskies, who won two national championships throughout the stretch. Now, they sit on the outside looking in with a 16-7 record overall and an 8-4 record in Big East play. If the poll extended beyond 25 teams, the Huskies would rank No. 27, receiving 106 votes Monday.
The Huskies’ 51 weeks ranked marked the fourth-longest stretch of any NCAA Division I team. Only Houston (97), Kansas (76) and Tennesee (71) have longer streaks. It was their third-longest streak of all time, just behind a 67-week streak from 1997-2000 and a 68-week streak from 2002-06.
In the team’s only game of the week, the Huskies matched up against No. 12 St. John’s Friday night in what was Liam McNeeley’s return to play after over a month injured. UConn led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but a dismal second half ended in a 68-62 St. John’s win.
Advanced-metric rankings continue to hold the Huskies slightly below their AP rank. KenPom sees UConn as the nation’s No. 34 team, while the NCAA’s NET rankings has UConn at No. 33.
Around the Big East, St. John’s makes a three-spot jump to crack the top 10 at No. 9. Marquette, last week’s No. 11, fell seven spots to No. 18 following a loss to Creighton. With the win over Marquette, the Bluejays enter the top 25 at No. 24.
Conference play continues for UConn, with the Huskies slated to play two games this week. They will travel to Nebraska to rematch Creighton Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 9:00 p.m. ET before making the trip to New Jersey to take on last-ranked Seton Hall Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
