The Huskies just barely remain ranked after a tough showing at the Maui Invitational.
UConn men’s basketball dropped to No. 25 in this week’s AP top 25 poll after a horrendous showing in the Maui Invitational, where Huskies lost three-straight games to unranked opponents. UConn bounced back with a resounding win at home over UMES, but the three losses caused the Huskies to fall to its lowest AP poll ranking since breaking into the top 25 at No. 25 in week two of the 2022-23 season.
UConn and No. 5 Marquette are the only Big East teams ranked in this week’s poll, but four other schools from the conference — Xavier, Creighton, St. John’s and DePaul — all received votes. Baylor, who comes to Storrs on Wednesday to take on the Huskies in the Big East-Big 12 Battle, is ranked No. 15. Gonzaga, which will face off against UConn on Dec. 14 at Madison Square Garden, is ranked No. 7.
Memphis, which beat UConn in the Maui Invitational opener, climbed up to No. 16 in the polls. Dayton, which beat the Huskies in the Maui finale, received votes.
The first iteration of the NET rankings were also released on Monday, with UConn coming in at No. 39 with an 0-2 record in Quad 1 games. The Huskies will have plenty of chances to pick up its first Quad 1 win over the next few weeks as UConn takes on the Bears, Texas on the road and then Gonzaga in the next two weeks.
