Dan Hurley picks up another talented 2025 prospect.
Dan Hurley’s recruiting tear continued Tuesday night, as 2025 guard Jacob Furphy announced his commitment to the Huskies. Furphy, a four-star recruit by 247Sports, is a Tasmania, Australia native currently at the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia. He chose UConn over Illinois.
The left-handed Furphy stands at 6-foot-5 and was a standout during Australia’s U18 Asia Cup gold medal run. He averaged 16.8 points and 4.2 assists per game during that tournament and shot 46.4 percent (13-28) from the 3-point line.
Furphy does not have a star rating from recruiting sites, but his performance for his national team, NBA Global Academy membership and interest from other high-major schools indicate he has the skillset to succeed with the Huskies. Like so many of Hurley’s recruits nowadays, Furphy is known for his prolific shooting and passing ability along with a strong basketball IQ.
Jacob Furphy is exactly the type of facilitating wing that allows UConn to pair two big guards together, without a conventional point guard.

“Jacob is a crafty 6′5 lefty with excellent court vision and a great feel for the game,” said Greg Collucci, NBA Director, Elite Basketball College Recruiting & Alumni Relations told NJ.com’s Adam Zagoria. “He plays with great pace, makes the right reads, can finish at the rim and is a quality 3 point shooter. His work ethic, ability to understand basketball concepts and character as a teammate will allow him to elevate and fit in seamlessly with any high-level program.”
Furphy joins fellow 2025 commits Darius Adams, Braylon Mullins and Eric Reibe in what has quickly become a loaded 2025 class with national pedigree. Furphy’s addition adds more international flair along with the German Reibe and further reinforces what is already a top-10 recruiting class.
With Furphy on board, UConn is technically one over the current scholarship limit of 13, assuming all scholarship players return next season. However, the NCAA scholarship limit is expected to jump to 15 next season, but that decision has not been finalized yet. Regardless, it’s a smart decision for Hurley and the coaching staff to “overload” on talent with players such as Alex Karaban, Liam McNeeley, Jaylin Stewart and Samson Johnson receiving early NBA buzz.
