The Huskies were the clear choice for the top team in the conference.
UConn men’s basketball received all 10 possible votes to earn the top spot in the 2024-25 Big East Preseason Coaches’ Poll to kick off Big East Media Day at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Only Marquette, ranked No. 4 in the poll, received another first place vote as UConn head coach Dan Hurley cannot vote for his own team.
Creighton and Xavier follow UConn at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, followed by Marquette, St. John’s and Providence. Villanova is No. 7, and Butler, Georgetown, Seton Hall and DePaul round out the rest of the poll.
Despite losing a significant amount of talent to the NBA Draft, UConn still has enough juice to try and become the first school to win three-straight national championships since John Wooden’s UCLA teams did so in the 1970s.
The Huskies, led by preseason All-Big East First Team member Alex Karaban, are ranked No. 3 in the preseason AP Poll and No. 5 in KenPom.
