The Huskies would head to Birmingham as the seventh overall seed if the NCAA Tournament started today.
In the NCAA’s first bracket reveal, UConn women’s basketball came in as a 2-seed in the Birmingham 3 Regional.
Texas (1-seed), North Carolina (3-seed) and Ohio State (4-seed) were the other teams in the Huskies’ bracket. The Tar Heels would be a potential Sweet Sixteen matchup while UConn wouldn’t see Longhorns and Buckeyes until the Elite Eight.

Entering Sunday’s contest with South Carolina, UConn stands at 23-3 with every loss coming against other teams in the top 16: Notre Dame (1-seed), USC (2-seed) and Tennessee (4-seed). The Huskies likely can’t move much higher at this point in the season but they could at least solidify their spot on the 2-line with a win over the Gamecocks.
UConn previously beat North Carolina 69-58 in Greensboro back in November.
In each of the last two tournaments, UConn has traveled west for regionals — Seattle in 2023, Portland in 2024 — so ending up in Birmingham instead of Spokane would be a welcome change. It would also reduce the distance the Huskies would have travel if they make the Final Four in Tampa.
Last season, UConn was a 3-seed for the first time since 2005 but still made the Final Four. The Huskies were 2-seeds in 2022 and 2023.
