The Huskies won a conference title and made their first NCAA Tournament since 2016 last season.
After leading the program to its first conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016, UConn women’s soccer coach Margaret Rodriguez has signed an extension through the 2027 season.
In her seventh season at the helm in 2024, Rodriguez guided the Huskies a 14-5-4 record. They struggled in Big East play during the regular season with a 4-3-3 record and finished fifth in the standings.
In the conference tournament, UConn knocked off Creighton on the road with a 2-0 win then upset regular season champions and arch-rival Georgetown by the same score in the semifinals. The Huskies took on Xavier in the title game and erased a one-goal deficit with an early second half goal. In overtime, Alayna Taylor scored a screamer from outside the box in the 109th minute that punched UConn’s ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

In the big dance, UConn upset Rutgers 2-1 in the first round and took on Stanford in the second round. The Huskies led 1-0 in the 86th minute before allowing two goals in the final 4:03 en route to a 2-1 defeat.
Rodriguez is also responsible for bringing Chioma Okafor to Storrs and developing her into the program’s first 10-goal scorer and two-time All-American since Rachel Hill and Steph Ribeiro (2015-16).
A star at UConn from 1995-98, Rodriguez is one of four players in program history with at least 40 goals and 40 assists in her career. She joined the Huskies’ coaching staff as an assistant under Len Tsantiris in 2007 before taking over in 2018.
