This is my first halftime post ever. An avalanche of mistakes and poor play has ended the game before it seemingly started.
- An amazing set of 3 errors on 3 plays created a 10-14 point swing. With the Giants in the red zone, a Thomas false start, bad snap from JMS and Special Teams blocked FG returned for a TD was the first blow.
- A Barkley catch on 3rd down is popped loose right into the arms of a defender who runs it in for a TD.
- Daniel Jones reverted with a poor decision, an INT leading to a short field TD. So that’s 20 points off of turnovers.
- The most troubling part of this destruction is the inability of the OL to pass protect. Both Thomas and Neal appear to be hobbled. It’s a jailbreak seemingly every pass.
- The quick offense scheming of Kafka finally appeared with short passes to Waller. Jones missed a wide open Campbell. So the reliable Gano gets rolled out to clean up and proceeds to shank it wide left. What else can go wrong?
It’s one loss. The Giants deserve at least three. If I’m dead wrong about optimism surrounding the season, I’ll be dead right about one thing: the Offensive Line was never finished and until they get that tight, it will limit this team. That was the risk case we outlined. The coaching staff is good enough to straighten out a lot of mistakes. It will likely take another season to fix the OL. Regroup for Week 2.
