Daniel Jones continues to progress in his recovery from knee surgery. The New York Giants are easing their quarterback into offseason work.
Brian Daboll told reporters Tuesday that Jones won’t participate in full team drills during mandatory minicap. The head coach said Jones is “right on point with where he needs to be” in order to be ready for training camp next month.
Daboll playfully said that Jones was “not too happy” about the Giants cutting seven-on-seven drills Tuesday. That left Jones to spend the day watching the 11-on-11 session.
“No, I wasn’t pumped up, but I’m not the coach,” Jones told reporters, via the New York Post‘s Paul Schwartz. “I don’t make those calls.”
Jones added that he understood Daboll’s decision to fit in more work for the rest of the team. The 27-year-old also provided a positive update on his recovery from an ACL tear that cost him the final eight games of the 2023 season.
“The knees feels good, really good,” Jones said. “Every week I’ve continued to feel better and better, and taking steps, doing a lot of the same things I’ve been doing, but doing them better and feeling sharper and cleaner with a lot of my cuts. Kind of working to getting that explosiveness back, and then taking steps and improving my change of direction and cutting from even where it was before the injury.”
Three weeks ago, Jones said he has “no doubt” he’ll be ready for Week 1. The team’s cautious approach doesn’t appear to convey any concern about that timetable.
