While New York Giants tight end Darren Waller has been contemplating his football future this offseason, he apparently has also devoted some time to his music career.
Waller, whose divorce from WNBA star Kelsey Plum became public last month, has released a new song and music video dedicated to his split from the Las Vegas Aces guard.
You can see the somewhat bizarre video in its entirety below. The (heavily auto-tuned) song, entitled “Who Knew (Her Perspective),” focuses on Waller and Plum’s relationship and includes lines such as “take your time and heal/take your time out and feel” and “thought our love was real/who knew that love could kill?”
The video also features an actress playing Plum and concludes with the woman stabbing Waller in the back as they embrace on a beach, killing the 31-year-old Pro Bowler.
According to TMZ, Waller said the song was written from “the viewpoint of a woman trying to love him.”
“I’ve struggled with intimacy in romantic relationships my whole life, and I recognize the toll it has taken on the lovers I’ve been close to,” Waller told TMZ.
“Essentially, I’m telling myself, from the damage I’ve done, that it’s imperative for me to heal the wounds in my life I’ve been avoiding by seeking relationships.”
Waller, who was limited by injuries in his first season with the Giants in 2023, is still deciding if he wants to continue playing football.
Plum, meanwhile, is in the middle of trying to help lead the Aces to a third-straight WNBA championship.
“I’m devastated,” Plum wrote in an emotional post about her divorce last month. “I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go. God has given me an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends, One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day. Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and everyday I will continue to choose joy. Much love KP.”
